Understanding Fortnite's Gunplay mechanics
The SCAR (and modern AR variants like the Striker AR) are the workhorses of any Fortnite loadout. Historically, Fortnite used a system called 'Bloom'—where bullets randomly land anywhere within your crosshair's reticle. To counter bloom, players use 'Tap Firing' (clicking the mouse instead of holding it down) and crouching, which tightens the reticle and guarantees first-shot accuracy.
The Weapon Mod Meta (Chapter 5)
The introduction of Weapon Mods completely changed how ARs function. You can now visit Weapon Bunkers and attach a Red-Eye sight, a vertical foregrip (reduces recoil), a drum mag, and a muzzle brake. A fully modded Mythic AR effectively removes bloom entirely, turning the gun into a laser beam that requires traditional recoil control (pulling your mouse down while shooting) rather than RNG luck.
Suppressing Fire Tactics
In team modes (Duos/Squads), ARs are used for 'Suppressing Fire'. If your teammate is pushing an enemy box, your job is to stand back and continuously spray the enemy's walls with your AR. This prevents the enemy from healing or editing out, allowing your teammate to safely take the wall and secure the elimination.
