The Endless Debate: Pump vs. Auto
The shotgun meta in Fortnite is constantly shifting depending on the current loot pool. Generally, the meta is divided into two playstyles: the 'Flick and Build' style (Pump Shotguns) and the 'Spray and Pray' style (Auto/Frenzy Shotguns). Understanding which to carry is the key to winning Victory Royales.
Why Pros Prefer the Pump
Professional players almost exclusively use Pump-style shotguns (like the Striker Pump or Hammer Pump). Why? Because competitive Fortnite is all about piece control and minimizing exposure time. You only need one millisecond to deliver 150 damage with a Pump before placing a wall. Auto shotguns require you to track the enemy continuously, leaving you exposed to counter-fire.
When to use the Auto Shotgun
If you are playing the 'Zero Build' mode, the meta shifts drastically. Without the ability to build walls instantly, the sustained DPS of an Auto Shotgun often outshines the burst damage of a Pump. If you miss your first Pump shot in Zero Build, you are dead. The Auto Shotgun provides a safety net for missed shots.
